Mile Cross Estate

Mile Cross is a historic garden-city estate in the north of Norwich, one of the earliest council housing schemes in the country, built in the 1920s to garden-suburb principles. It was deliberately laid out with wide, tree-lined avenues, generous verges and open greens, and a century on, those inter-war street and garden trees are large, mature and a real part of the estate's character in the NR3 postcode.

Mature trees of this age need ongoing management. We are regularly called to Mile Cross for crown reductions and crown lifting where trees overhang pavements, roads and gardens, for deadwooding of older specimens, and for the removal and stump grinding of trees that have outgrown their position or begun to affect nearby paths and drains. Wherever possible we work to retain and prolong the life of the established planting that gives the area its leafy feel.

The estate runs down towards the River Wensum, with Sloughbottom Park and Wensum Park close by, and we cover the whole surrounding NR3 area. Street and amenity trees here may be council-managed or protected by Tree Preservation Orders, so we always check before starting and handle any council notifications for you.
